Economicals ...... 7 1 ...... Shene
Ian
n. over-indulgence in food, drink or intoxicants, misplaced desire for food for its sensuality: We all know that at least one, if not all three, applies to all of us in varying degrees on a weekly basis. The old joke about pre-season training regimes never did come back to haunt us so iniquitously as last week, as the nimble, quick, alert opposition rang rings around the burgeoning waistlines of a lacklustre Shene and Sir Jeffrey of Lloyd wasnt even playing! The only team-mates left starving were Ken & Dunc/Nick on the left-side ploughing a lonely furrow in an expanse as wide-open as the Canadian prairies but largely unused due to our laughable version of the EUs Common Agricultural Policy.

n. a feeling of chagrin at the ability, qualities, fortune, etc. of another contemplated with grudging or emulous feeling: Oh yes; how apt is this one, and not just towards Economicals either, but the thought of a toasty-warm settee in front of the TV watching the rugby, footer, etc. or perhaps not even that. More a case of anywhere but here maybe?

n. a peacocks attitude of display: Were in Division NINE South (there is a reason for this) = no fucking around trying poncy, delicate passes out of defence, straight to their attackers instead of a member of your own team. Lets try the positive meaning next time n.a proper sense of what is becoming to oneself and scorn of what is unworthy: lets give this one a bash next time, eh?

n. laziness, idleness and wastefulness of time allotted: Cant be arsed to utilise the options open; pass to other members of the team working their bollocks off to get into advantageous positions; even bother looking to see if Aaron had made yet another surging run. We had an inordinate amount of time early on to build attacks but, instead, chose the lazy, nee soporific, option and pass straight to the opposition, then back off and let them pepper Mozzer at will. Andy had a good game, when given the chance, and caught everything pummelled at him.

n. desire: appetite: relish: longing: eager to posess: the ball! Where was it? Some of the tackling didnt deserve to be requited thus. Even though Dunc and Aaron were getting into shooting positions early on, as soon as a couple of feeble mistakes allowed Comics in, where was the desire to rectify those errors? The appetite only seemed to be rekindled late on when all was lost: Wearmouth and Dan finally striding forward with some purpose to gain scant consolation with a weary singular goal from Ian.

n. greed: possession of more than one has need for: We must start spreading the ball more, and quicker. Too often were getting caught playing ineffectual short passes down a crowded right channel or holding the ball too long in centre midfield and getting smothered when there are plenty of options out wide. Dave and Dunc/Nick showed what could happen, with selfless energy down the flanks, when the ball was expedited down the wings but there was too much innocuous trickery and facile passing in the centre to enable effective utilisation of the space out wide.

n. inappropriate feelings of hatred, revenge or even denial: For as long as I can remember playing for the 3s, weve always prided (yes, I know its technically a Sin) ourselves on our team ethic and ability to induce rancour amongst opposing teams but beating each other around the head with handbags doesnt engender dysfunction in the opponents. Sublimate annoyance with team-mates, channel the anger and let loose the dogs of war on the combatants, not fellow Shenesters. Too much bickering, whingeing and questioning going on its NOT the 3s!

Sorry for the lack of effervescent gaiety this week but there werent many virtuous performances to detail last Saturday. Aaron worked his socks off against their consummate defender, Anil, but did manage to produce one chard of brilliance in a tumultuous yet flaccid display an incongruous flick from the near post that almost sent Ian in, defying the laws of motion and fatigue in one fell swoop. Mozzer had a solid, secure performance but, unfortunately, this wasnt replicated by the defence in front of him. Lets just revert back to normal service next Saturday and pummel the BBC Big Baby Comefaces
