Shemar Franklin Moore was born in Oakland, California April 20, 1970 to Marilyn and Sherrod Moore. Being the harmonious product of an interracial marriage, Shemar's parents decided to leave the United States in order to shelter their son from racism .
Shemar spent the first two years of his life in Denmark where he became fluent in Danish. During the next four years of his life, Shemar traveled with his devoted mother to various countries including Bahrain, England, Greece and Africa.
Eventually Mrs. Moore returned to the U.S. with her son , first relocating to Massachusettes where they remained for two years. Shemar and his mother then moved to California where they eventually settled in the Bay area.
Shemar credits his mother with being the driving force in his life. With her persistence, Shemar attended College. He chose Santa Clara University where he majored in Communications and minored in Theatre Arts. While at Santa Clara University Shemar played college baseball , but due to an injury he could not pursue his dream to play professionally. Fortunately his other dream, to 'play pretend' was right at hand. Shemar modeled to help his mother with college tuition. After he completed school, he headed for New York to begin his career in the world of make believe. An agent spotted Shemar in an advertisement and submitted it to the producers of The Young and Restless and from there his dreams became reality. |
