Rehabilitating The Troubled Shetland Sheepdog...
...Finding And Freeing The Sheltie Within

Research for this book project is being conducted by Ginger Poffenberger. This page will be updated with availability when the book is completed.
Why?

I am hoping that the result of this writing project will be a usable guide for sheltie rescuers in helping them deal with a troubled or severely traumatized sheltie. As those of us who love this breed know, shelties are very special dogs. They are extremely sensitive and many times a rescued sheltie is a troubled sheltie to some degree. Each one has a past, good or bad, known or speculated. It is the sheltie rescuer's goal to help this sheltie adjust to life and ultimately to find happiness in it's own 'forever home'.
How?

I plan to interview many folks who are either involved with sheltie rescue, or have worked with a troubled sheltie, to gather techiques and strategies, and to provide insight into the mechanics of this kind of behavior in shelties. I am also planning to include statistics and other information helpful in rehabilitating these troubled dogs. Each sheltie deserves a chance.

I will be attending the 2002 Sheltie National in Shreveport, LA in March 2002. If you are interested in my writing project, please look me up.
Tobey, a former (and still, somewhat) troubled sheltie, begs you to give each one a fighting chance to live...
VISITORS
About the author...

I am a recent sheltie convert. Tobey, my first sheltie, was found waiting for me to come get him at the local Humane Society. He was quite traumatized. After a year and a half, he is still blossoming. He is largely responsible for turning me into a Sheltiemaniac. So, I am relatively new to shelties. Writing is something that I have been doing all my life, so this project just seemed like a natural for me, and I am very excited about pulling this book together. I cannot do it without the help of all the experienced sheltie folks out there, so please, if you are interested in contributing, contact me at
[email protected]. You can view my personal web page at Poff-N-Stuff Shelties, and also the page of the rescue I volunteer with, Susquehanna Valley Collie and Sheltie Rescue.

I have been a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania, and currently reside in Mechanicsburg, PA.

I apologize for the fact that no payment can be made for these contributions. However, contributors will be recognized, as well as any sheltie rescue organization to which they may be affiliated.
BENEFIT

It is my intention that this book should benefit sheltie rescue, not just as a helpful resource, but also as a fundraising resource. I am investigating methods by which a portion of the purchase price of each copy can be donated to Sheltie Rescue.
