Club Contests

Home

Shell Toastmasters periodically holds club contests. There are three types of contests - a speech contest, an evaluation contest, and a table topics contest. In each contest there are two or more contestants. The order of the contestants is determined in advance by random selection. There are three judges that rank the contestants.

  • In a speech contest the contestants give prepared speeches of five to seven minutes in length.

  • In an evaluation contest one person delivers a prepared speech of five to seven minutes and then the contestants give one to two minute evaluations of that speech. The contestants that have not given their evaluation are not present when the other contestants are giving their evaluation.

  • In a table topics contest the contestants are each asked the same question and they speak on that topic for one to two minutes. Contestants that have not answered the question are not present so they do not hear the question until it is their turn.

The judges are provided with a judging guide and ballot form, and a description of the judging criteria and code of ethics. Judges must select a contestant for first, second, and third place.
