Shelley Schmidtke AGENCY Did you know that you now have a choice of various ways that you can work with a real estate agent when buying property? This was not always the case. Until recently, real estate agents usually represented the seller in a listing agreement that appointed each agent, who showed the property to a prospective buyer, as a sub-agent of the seller. This meant that, although an agent would assist buyers, his or her primary responsibility was to the seller. State Law now calls for real estate agents to offer various agency option to their buyers. Simply stated, agents now act as an agent of the buyer or seller. In some limited situations, an agent may represent both parties equally. I will provide you with a form that describes each agency relationship available to you and answer any questions you may have concerning agency. |
