| Isn't God perfect! You know the sweet-gum tree? It produces a multitude of thorny balls, seemingly just to litter the ground and be a nuisance. Well, today I found out that those pesky balls do have a purpose. In my tree-guild book, I found this: The hanging dry fruit, a ball covered with tiny horns, open to release small winged seeds, which are eaten by birds. Just think! Air-borne fast-food for birds! Isn't God thoughtful!!!! (Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn, and God feedeth them...... Luke 12:24) |

| A little girl was visiting her grandma in the country. One evening they sat and enjoyed the panorama of stars in the heaven-----such sparkling brilliance the little girl hadn't seen, living in the city with all the lights. She was in awe of the beauty and said to her grandma, "If heaven is so beautiful on the wrong side, what must it be like on the right side." | |||||||||||||
| I read about a man who called his wife from an airport pay phone. When he had used up all his coins, the operater interrupted to say he had one minute left. The man hurriedly tried to finish his conversation with his wife, but before they could tell each other goodbye, the line went dead. With a sigh, the man hung up the phone and started to leave the little telephone cubicle. Just then the phone rang. Thinking, it was the operator wanting more money the man almost didn't answer. But something told him to pick up the phone. And sure enough, it was the operator. But she didn't want more money. Instead she had a message for him. "After you hung up, your wife said she loved you," the operator said. "I thought you'd want to know." | |||||||||||||
| A preacher placed two identical jars on the table next to the pulpit. He quoted 1 Samuel 16:7 "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart" The preacher then went on to say, "These jars came from the same factory, were made of the same materials, and can hold the same amount. But they are different", he explained. Then he upset one and it oozed out honey. He turned over the other, and vinegar spilled out. "When a jar is upset, whatever is in it comes out. Until the jars were upset, they looked alike. The difference was within, and could not be seen. When they were upset, their contents were revealed. Until we are upset we put on a good front. But when we are upset, we reveal our innermost thoughts and attitude, for 'out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.'" (Luke 6:45.) What if someone tipped you over today? Would it be honey or vinegar? | |||||||||||||
| What is the deal with lightning bugs? I mean, here is the rather ordinary looking flying insect, but wait..... it has a glow-in-the dark rear end! What was God thinking??? I'm sure science has all kinds of explanations about how this fluorescent fanny is useful for mating and other stuff, but why did God choose to make the lightning bug glow? I wonder if, when God was creating all the animals and everything around us, he came up with the idea of the lightning bug and said, "The kids are gonna love this." We know that God loves us enough to create all the things we need to survive, but does God love us so much He created some things just to make us smile? Just seeing lightning bugs takes me back to those warm summer nights of my youth. I'd be running around the backyard with my empty jar, racing towards the flashing lights all around me. I can still feel the joy and hear the laughter echoing through my memories. Lightning bugs were as much a part of summer as fireworks, fresh tomatoes, and big ice-cold slabs of juicy watermelon. (I also have a theory of why God made watermelon seeds the perfect size to spit, but that's another story) God created so much diversity in this world, much more than is needed for mere survival. He made all of this for us, and He wanted us to enjoy it. We can get so busy surrounding ourselves with man-made goods that we don't notice the living tapestry God has laid out all around us. I guess lightning bugs do have a purpose after all. They are a reminder of a creative God who loves us so much, He'd even paint the rear end of a bug......just to see us smile...... | |||||||||||||
