Disclaimer: You know the drill. They aren't mine. I know I skipped the wedding itself, but that's because I'm horrible at writing actual weddings. There are many reasons for this. First of all, they almost never get to be the way I want them to be. Second, the characters never cooperate with me. Oh, well. Here's chapter three.

Chapter 3: The Aftermath

The wedding went well, without any hitches. The part that Cassie and Jake were not looking forward to was the reception. Honestly, Jake was a little scared about the speech Marco, being best man, had prepared. After all, Marco wasn't known for being serious and loved making fun of Jake. However, both the speech by Rachel and the speech by Marco surprised Jake and Cassie.

Rachel began the speech-making process. "Um, I'd like to say a few words. Cassie, Jake, and I have known each other for forever, and honestly I wasn't that surprised to see them get together. All our lives it's been painfully obvious that Cassie and Jake had this thing for each other, even though they never admitted it until a few years ago. Cassie's been my best friend since we were in first grade or something like that. Although I have two younger sisters, I never really had anyone to talk to about stuff until Cassie came along. I know this'll sound really sappy, but I love Cassie like a sister and I'm glad she's finally happy with her life. Jake, on the other hand, I've known since before we were even born. We're cousins, so for all the family reunions and stuff like that we've always hung out together. It also helped a little that we live in the same town and have always gone to the same school. He's like the big brother I never had, always looking out for me, especially when I didn't want him to." This comment drew a few scattered laughs, mostly from the family and from Jake. "I'm incredibly glad that Cassie and Jake found each other, because I honestly can't think of any two people that are more perfect for each other than them." Turning to the bride and groom, she addressed her closing comment to them. "I wish you two the best in life, because I know that no matter what, you'll be happy." With that, she sat back down amid the applause that erupted.

When the clapping finally died down, Marco stood up to say his speech. "Well, it's my turn. First of all, I'd like to say a few words about myself. I've been known as a moron who jokes all the time. However, I think I'm gonna shed that image for a few minutes and say something serious for once. Wish me luck." He cleared his throat and took a sip of water. "Jake and I have been best friends longer than Rachel and Cassie have. I'm serious, man. We've known each other since kindergarten." This comment caused the audience to laugh. "Hey, I'm serious! A year is a long time. Anyways, Jake and Cassie are like salt and pepper. And no, I'm not commenting on skin color." This drew a glare from both Jake and Cassie. "Sorry, guys. I couldn't resist. Anyways, salt and pepper are total opposites, but when you put them on food they taste perfect. Now, I have no idea how Jake and Cassie taste on food, and I apologize. But I do know that they go perfect with each other. Jake's a total idiot in things like Batman and Spiderman or basketball teams, but let me tell you that he's no idiot when it comes to love." Marco took a breath and continued. "Cassie and he are soul mates. They always have been, and they always will be. I wish you two the best luck in life, although I know that you'll have one heck of a time together. You'll be able to get through anything and everything that comes in your way of happiness. Thanks for everything I have and will forever learn from the special bond that you two have."
