Guilt-edged dreams hid
the fullness of destruction,
but as the village burned she felt
beloved lifesongs leaping skywards in
the flames and screaming trees below the cave.

Beguiled by arrogance,
she had mis-read the signs and
time, unleashed, had taken her alive.
Calling a dark master back from death had
not worked out so well and now her mind was numb.

His arrival interrupted, then reversed,
frightened sisters gave themselves to agony and ash,
their lifesongs joining many other glowing, floating embers
days before her dreams released their bitter tears
of failure to a screaming soul-filled sky.
