I purchased this car from Dave Knochemus in April of 2001. I always find it interesting to find out the history of different cars. Dave had this information about the car on his web page and I thought it was a cool insight to this car's history, so as a historical reference I kept it.
My first new car was a 1985 Dodge Charger. I had had a few other cars, but this was the first car that was brand new and all mine. It made a puny 95 HP and was normally aspirated. I made many modifications to this car that really improved it's handling and performance. I had replaced the computer, shocks, struts and shocks, Anti-sway bars and tires and many other parts on it. But I just couldn't make it fast enough for my taste. I tried to upgrade to a 1986 Shelby GLHS (four door Omni), but couldn't afford the insurance on it. The car payment was only $299 a month, but the insurance was $399! Being 20 years old caused me to have terrible insurance rates, and a turbo car was just out of the question for me. Drat! The car was absolutely awesome and was a serious pocket-rocket! I just wished it hadn't been four doors...
In 1987, Shelby and Dodge produced the 1987 Shelby GLHS. I loved this car from the first time I saw it. It was the exact same car as the 1986 Omni GLHS, but it was based on my two door Charger model. That made it as sporty looking as it was fast! Sadly, I still couldn't afford to pay the insurance on it.
Fast forward to 1987: I bought this car in April 1997 from the original in Washington DC. Flying up there to drive it back was scary, as it was the first time I had purchased a car over the Internet, sight unseen. A good friend of mine just happened to live in DC and was able to go look at the car for me to verify that it was in good shape. That made it a lot easier for me!
The car was as beautiful as the owner said it was, so I drove it back to Dallas. It has since needed very little repair and has given me over three years of exhilirating performance. It is still original except for a few performance mods including Super60 cam, +10% injectors, K&N cone air filter and MP Stage II logic module. The interior is almost mint and needs nothing! This car really does Go Like Hell!
