QUESTION
TAG
There are two parts to question tag: statement and
tag. They were here yesterday. (statement) Weren't they?
(tag) For the correct tag note the following: 1. If the finite verb
is an auxiliary verb in the sentence, it must re-appear in the tag, but in
another form. You haven't done my assignment. Have you? You should
study everyday. Shouldn't you? 2. If the statement is in the
affirmative, the tag should be negative, and vice versa. They can't see
us. Can they? You will have to wait for her. Won't you? They won't
welcome us. Will they? Saidu is my friend. Isn't he? We needn't go
too far. Need we? You must do your work now. Mustn't you? 3. Let us
go to the field. Shall we? 4. If there is no auxiliary in the sentence,
the main verb is replaced by the verb DO, and this is constructed to fit
the tense. If the main verb is in the past, use: didn't If it's in
the present, use: doesn't or don't Singular subject (present):
doesn't Plural subject (present): don't The hunter kills the lion.
Doesn't he? The hunter killed the lion. Didn't he? The hunters kill
the lion. Don't they? The hunters killed the lion. Didn't
they?
