1. The first word in a sentence must start with a capital letter.

2.Capitalized the personal pronoun "I".

3. Every item in a proper noun must start with a capital letter except prepositions, conjunctions, articles and other less important words.
Countries and continents
Africa, England, Guinea, China, Mali, Ghana,
Regions, States, Districts etc.
Tonkolili, Koinadugu, Kenema District,
Towns, Villages etc
Freetown, Cape Town, Bafodia, Tongo, London, Lunsar, Lungi, Kabala
Rivers, Oceans, Seas, lakes:
the Atlantic, the Pacific, Lake Sonfon, Lake Victoria, River Rokel, Mano River, the Nile
Streets, Buildings, Parks:
Peter Lane, Savage Square, George Street, Youyi Building

He has gone to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Magbele Bridge runs across the River Rokel. The National Insurance Company is situated along Walpole Street. Alfred Sandy is now a student of Fourah Bay College. Sierra Leone Grammar School will play Government Model Secondary School.

4. Proper adjectives should be capitalized :
A Sierra Leonean story, Chinese film,
French music, Arabic writing, Nigerian novel

5. All the days of the week, the months of the year and holidays should be capitalized.
I think New Year's Day will fall on Thursday. My favourite months are August and May. This year Christmas and Easter will fall on Monday. Our Independence Day is on April 27.Did you attend our Thanksgiving Day?

6.Capitalize historical events and periods.
The Stone Age, World War II, Crusades, Renaissance

7.Capitalize nouns and pronouns referring to deity (God): God, Lord, Saviour, our Father, Messiah, Trinity, Holy Ghost, He, His Him.
If you ask God, He will help you. We worship and adore Him. We live by His grace.
Pagan gods are not capitalized:
They worshipped an ancient tribal god.

8.Capitalize the title of a person when it comes before a name.
We met President Nelson Mandela in Cape Town and Pretoria. I know Miss Turay.
Dr. Turay is my doctor. You know Uncle Joseph is my only uncle. Brima and I have not seen Mr. Sandy for two weeks. Please ask Mrs. Koroma for the ruler. Have you seen Reverend Smith? He intends to become a reverend.
If the title stands alone (without being followed by a name), it may be capitalized if it refers to an important high office.
The Minister of Agriculture spoke with our treasurer. The President has signed the bill into law. The Bishop led the congregation. The president of our club met with the President at State House.
Sometimes the title of a person is used alone as if it is his real name. His or her name is entirely dropped and his title is used instead. Thus the title becomes a proper noun. It is essential to capital this title.

9.Capitalize the first word and all important words in the titles of articles, books, stories, magazines, newspapers, poems, formal letters, formal speeches, etc.

10.Capitalize the brand names of business products but not the common nouns following them.
A Canon camera, a Toyota truck, a Bic pen, a Nike crepe, a Mercedes car.
