Wasn't It You?

This is for my friend who recently lost her husband of fifteen years, to another woman. David, you are a pig!!! My friend is trying hard to rebuild her life for the sake of their daughter, but she isn’t finding it very easy. Perhaps you have been through the same thing, and can understand the struggle she is going through now. When the light at the end of the tunnel starts to shine, I have no idea, but for everyone going through something similar, I hope it won’t be too long for you.

Wasn’t it You?
By Amanda Jay Clark.

Wasn’t it you who said love was forever?
That I was the girl of your dreams?
Well, suddenly I find myself thinking,
Forever’s not as long as it seems.

Wasn’t it you who cried tears of elation,
When I walked down the aisle as your bride?
There, we vowed to be true to each other,
And stay by each others side.

Wasn’t it you who couldn’t live without me?
Until the day you found that you could.
You broke every vow, every promise.
And destroyed all we had that was good.

Wasn’t it you who convinced me, that together,
We’d break records of love, and not part?
Well, the only record that we broke,
Was our tune, followed by my heart!

Wasn’t it you who said you’d die without me?
If you like, I could make that come true.
As I watch you pack to run to her,
It’s a fight to keep my hands off of you.

I don’t mean to massage and caress you,
But round the throat to squeeze out the life,
And a kick that would leave you a soprano,
So that you’d never again need a wife!

It was you, I remember it clearly.
Who said I set your loins on fire.
Well, I guess she doused the burning,
Turned you into a cheat and a liar.

I can’t think what I did to deserve this.
Why you let her put out our flame.
I know that she played out her part,
But you still get ninety percent of the blame.
