I Can Not

When I was at school, I had the most powerful crush on one of the lads in the year above me. Being a shy teenager, I was always terrified that he would find out, and hate me, or laugh at me. Mercifully, he never did find out, at least to my knowledge. Even now, after all these years, I find myself thinking about him once in a while, and wondering where he is, and what he is doing. This is dedicated to him, wherever he may be. Do you have a crush on someone, and are not sure how to approach him, or her? Why not tell me about it, and I’ll write you a poem to send to the person of your dreams. Don’t spend the rest of your life wondering what might have been, the way I do.

I Can Not.
By Amanda Jay Clark.

I can not say I love you,
I can not say I care.
But deep inside, my feelings hide,
The love for you that’s there.
I can not walk on water,
Take flight, or grow wings,
But, in my imagination,
I know you do these things.
I can not move a mountain,
Or make a bouquet from one flower,
But, in my deepest fantasy,
I know you have that power.
I can not leap tall buildings,
Or turn water into wine.
The saddest thing of all,
I could if you were mine.
I can not hide my shyness.
My embarrassment is too strong.
My love for you must stay a dream,
A dream I’ve had so long.
