Diana.

The People’s Princess.

  • Diana, princess of Wales, died on Saturday 31st August 1997. She was just 36 years old. We will never know the whole truth about what happened on that night. We only know that the world is a poorer place for not having her in it. Diana, we miss you.
  • Diana.
    The People’s Princess.
    By Amanda Jay Clark.

The door slams hard on a legend,
And as soon as her pure soul departs,
The world is stunned with shock and grief,
    As she breaks six-billion hearts.
Enough tears are shed to drown the world,
But they could never drown our sorrows.
Cos our lady, our Princess, Diana,
Too soon ran out of tomorrows.

No more radiant eyes, or sunshine smile,
Her style and charisma, all gone.
Charm turned off like the flick of a switch.
But her legacy will live on.
We have to have all learned a lesson,
From the love and respect that she gave.
We must all continue her good work,
Not just leave it to rot in the grave.

We have to show mercy and tenderness.
Give love to all those in need.
Don’t hold back on the hugs and kisses,
Let’s make all her wishes succeed.
Don’t look down your nose at the homeless,
Or shun people dying of AIDS.
For Diana, let’s all form an army,
And fight on with her mighty crusades.

Let’s show more respect for those people,
    Who live with a handicap.
Put ramps and lifts into buildings,
Help them close the widening gap.
    Make improvements on public transport,
To help them get from A to B.
Because as things are at the moment,
The disabled are not living free.

She wasn’t the answer to everything,
But she was determined to try,
To do her best for everyone,
So, why did she have to die?
For that, there can be no answer.
But her death mustn’t be in vain.
Let her passing make us better people.
Bring us closer. Make us more humane.

All the tears must stop now, Diana.
There is so much hard work to be done.
And if we follow your well-set example,
We will find that that work can be fun.
As we see things improve for the country,
In your name we will fight on, and on.
And as smiles replace frowns on our faces,
It will be like you’re not really gone.

So, rest in peace, gentle lady,
In full knowledge of what you did, counts.
You meant so much to so many people,
And improved lives by huge amounts.
We will always miss you, Diana.
You left a void, impossible to fill.
But you’ll live on in our hearts forever,
    Especially through Harry, and Will.

So, as you watch over us from Heaven,
Full of pride as you sweetly smile down,
Enjoying the peace that you so richly deserve,
    And finally wearing your crown,
    Hear this from your loyal subjects;
Although you were denied the throne,
You’re the best queen the England Never had.
The best queen we’d ever have known!
