MAPLE SYRUP BARBECUE SAUCE

1 cup maple syrup
1 cup ketchup
1 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon hot sauce -- (or more to taste)

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.

Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes. Cool.

Pour mixture into container of an electric blender; process until smooth.

Refrigerate sauce up to one month. Great on chicken. Yield: about 3 1/2
cups.
