| PORTRAITS OF DANCE starring "BOJANGLES" |
| National Dance Month 2006 In celebration of Dance month, I would like all of my dancer partners and dance professionals, and people that just like to dance to preview a some of the art, I did of the legendary Tap dancer Bill "Bojangles "Robinson. 1878-1949. He was one of America's greatest and well known Tap dancers. He introduced and made famous his stair-step routine in "Jazz Dance"and he starred in the "Blackbirds and Harlem is Heaven" (1933). He was one of the first African American dancers/actors to be given a starrring role in Hollywood.. Bojangles was also known off stage for his generosity given to his community earning him the title of Mayor of Harlem in 1934. On his 61st birthday crowds cheered as he danced his way down Broadway to 44th Street. The famous dancer Fred Astaire created a special routine for him called "Bojangles of Harlem", and Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields wrote the music. Another popular song written for him is "Mr. Bojangles" that sold over a million copies. I have a new series of large size posters, prints and cards and bookmarks of this Legend. Send an e-mail if you would like to see more of the series. Hope to hear from you soon. Have a fun time dancing! National Dance Month 2006 |
