May 29th 2002-- What if we say no?

Ok, this idea is from a story I've been writing I call Pepperland. I've been thinking about it more and more lately. The main idea behind the story is what do you do if you choose not to accept your reality? In my story, the main character, Gabriel is depressed and starts to sleep more and more. Soon his dreams start to all be connected. In his dreams is a world he's created in his mind, where his life is near perfect, the perfect girlfriend, good grades (he's a junior in college), good friends and basically just great life. He starts to like his dreams so much that he does everything he can not to wake up. I have about 6 different ending for this story...but I think the one I'll use (or at least tell for now) is that Gabriel dies of starvation, killing both his dreams and his real life.  Given the guy sounds a little weird, but what if this could happen? What if you chose not to accept your reality? Can you escape it? Can you survive escaping it? Or will you inevitably come back to it? Is your reality what's best for you? Or is there something else out there that if we abandon all we've come to know and go after will provide us with a better sense of living?
