Pearl Milk Tea

Pearl Milk tea was a very big thing in Hong Kong and Taiwan (where it started). Now it's very big in the North American big cities. So many people are starting to drink these cold drinks with tapioca balls. What is Peral Milk tea, you may ask? Pearl tea is a delicious drink made with tea, condensed milk, and large tapioca balls (the pearls). Many types of flavorings are often added to pearl tea, e.g. red bean, almond, melon, taro.I love pearl milk tea. Although, I'm a traditional girl who doesn't try any new flavours. I only like the traditional flavour. It's the best. Many people are know getting into the spirit of making Pearl Milk tea. So am I. I got this recipe on the internet. So, I can't say it's mine. But, this is the right way of making Pearl Milk tea.

Ingredients:

1. Jar of tapioca balls with sweetened syrup (usually in brown or red).

2. Condensed milk (preferably Longevity Brand).

3. Tea. Possible choices are: Chinese tea, such as Oolong or Black, or Japanese Green Tea. Coffee would make a perfect substitution in case tea is not around.

4. 3 teaspoons of sugar.

5. Boiling pot of water.

6. Strainer.

Preparation:

For a single serving, use a quarter cup of tapioca balls. For servings of two or three, use half the jar. Use the entire jar for family servings.

Pour desired amount from the jar into a strainer so that all the syrup separates from the tapioca balls. Bring a pot of water to boil. Once the water starts boiling, put in the tapioca balls. Add 3 teaspoons of sugar (so that the tapioca balls have a softer yet chewier texture). Let the tapioca balls boil for about 5 minutes. Bring the pot to simmer for 3 minutes. Then drain and rinse in cold water using the strainer. Leave it in the strainer. Prepare a pot of tea.

Afterwards, open a can of condensed milk and pour about a tablespoon into a 12oz. glass. (For single servings, use about a tablespoon of condensed milk, as this stuff is really thick and sweet. For bigger servings, add to taste). Refrigerate unused condensed milk after opening. Add about 8 ounces of tea to the glass of condensed milk. Mix until the condensed milk has fully dissolved into the tea. From the strainer, pour the tapioca balls into the glass of milk and tea.
