| "Jessica, come up here, I need help folding the sheets!" Jessica's mum called down the stairs to her youngest daughter. grumbling, as per usual, Jessica clambered clumsily up the wooden steps. "Oh Mother, why do you ask me to do these things at the most awkward times?" she stood in the doorway in her peticoat. "I was just picking out an outfit. Melissa and I are going to the swan this evening to see one of Mr Shakespeare's plays." "I don't know why you have to go to these things. We may not be rich, but we ain't poor, and I don't like the way you praise those vagabond actors so." "Mother, don't call them that. They're wonderful, I just wish I could persuade you to come along and see for yourself." "We'll have none of that. Come on, help me lass, or these sheets'll never be done." Stroppily, Jessica stomped over to her mother and folded the sheets. She was cross, and unlike most respectable young ladies of her age, was not embarassed infront of her mother in just her peticoat. She was somewhat of a tomboy of her age, and had a temper which was often shown in the public eye. "I wouldn't mind being an actor" she mumbled under her breath, but loudly enough for her mother to hear. "WHAT? Now I won't hear of that ever again under this roof, you understand? I've never heard such nonsence! you will be a housewife, just like me, my mother, and my mother's mother! I don't know what rubbish these people are putting into your head, but I'll have none of it. Do you hear? Jessica nodded, wishing she'd kept her mouth shut. |

Once Jessica had finnished helping her mother fold the sheets she next
retired to her bedroom, falling flat on her back on to her bed. Thoughts flooded
into her head about her mother not agreeing with her becoming an actress. She
felt as though the whole world was collapsing on top of her.She knew that her
and Melissa's trip to The Swan wouldn't be the same as she would be gazing onto
the beautiful open stage and wishing that she could be on their but know that
she would never be thanks to her mother. She closed her eyes and thought to
herself, "I'll be an actor, just wait and see! I t will take more than my mother
and some old tradditions to stop me!". Smiling to herself she got up and picked
out an outfit and combed her hair. When she got up she walked straight passed
her mother and out the door. She heard her mother shout something after her but
she ignored it. She knew that it would take some lying and decieving to make her
dream come true and although she didn't like it, it depended on her whole life.
