August 12, 2004 Today I went caching with Caraloopy! We started about 2 pm and didn't finish until about 10 pm!!! We had so much fun! I ended up with 16 finds today! It did start raining a little bit at the end of our visit out at Hanna Park, but we just went to my apartment and waited it out. Then we went back to caching... It turns out that the weather had gotten pretty darn bad in Jacksonville, a tornado touched down and caused a lot of damage. But we were oblivious! The weather in the beaches area was fine! A little cloudy and muggy but not anything dangerous. We found a lot of interesting caches. While at Hanna Park we found one cache and attempted a second. It was my first visit to this beautiful park. We ran into a lot of the hugest spiders I've ever seen in my life! lol.. They were probably about the size of my palm and some of their webs spread out around 3 to 4 feet! I even got to find the two that Tony and I had attempted before we got our gps. They really have tricky hiding places here, I probably would have had a lot of DNFs had it not been for Caraloopy's help! Well, the luau has been rescheduled for September due to hurricane Charlie. Which is okay because then Tony will be back and we can go camping together.
August 14, 2004 Saturday, the day after hurricane Charley passed our area, and where were Caraloopy and me? Well... Geocaching! (of course!!) We tackled another list of caches downloaded to our handy gps'rs. I added another 16 smileys to my name for a total of 33 now. The highlight of our caching day was The Federation Must Pay by Paintfiction, but you can read about that on the memorable caches page. I had a lot of fun today, and got to see downtown Jacksonville for the first time since I moved here. This really is a beautiful area. I'll have to get more pics to put on here. We're already looking foward to caching next weekend! lol...
August 16, 2004 Well, it's Monday. I took my friends to school, and realized what a pretty day it was going to be. So, I decided to take the travel bug that I picked up the other day to the beach. (One of its goals is to get a picture of it at the beach.) So I thought, well, I can do that today... I'm getting pretty comfortable with my standard driving abilities... lol... So I grabbed my gps, my city map (since I don't have the software CD yet) and the TB and headed out to the beach. I parked at a beach access that actually has another cache hidden nearby, so I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone... So, I laid the TB (a little matchbox car) on the sand and wrote "Hi from FL" in the sand and took a pictrue, and I also took a picture while holding it up with the waves in the background. With that done, I could finally start looking for the cache. I was somewhat nervous, because this was the first time I'd gone caching solo, I didn't think I was going to be able to find it. It did take me a little bit of time, but I finally found it! After that one, I went ahead and tried for a second one on the beach, but I couldn't figure out how to get to that beach access, so I'll have to attempt it again another day. So, then I headed back to town, and decided to go for one off of the main street that I was about to turn in on. This one was a nano positioned somewhere in the parking lot of a shopping center. I finally found it in a tree, but I did take a while looking every place around the tree instead of in it... lol.... I'm already looking foward to caching this weekend again with Caraloopy, and it's only Monday!!!
August 22, 2004 Sigh... This morning I woke up and checked the listings to find a brand new cache in the area. I immediately jumped into the car and headed out there. It wasn't too far to drive and I figured that since it was a Sunday morning, the traffic wouldn't be too bad, and it wasn't... This was a new camo by StressMaster, and I've never seen anything like it before, so it took me a few minutes... after I finally found it, I saw that I had already been beaten to first find by esco... But my first second find is still awesome too! lol...
August 21, 2004 Another great day of caching with my friend Caraloopy! I got 19 more smilies today! We make an awesome team! I got to find some of the caches that Caraloopy placed (guaranteed finds lol)... At one of them we got busted by the SuzyQs who were actually looking and couldn't find it. They had been trying to call for hints when we just happened to pull up. What are the chances of that!?! We also found a virtual out at a forest in Fernadina Beach. We ended up bushwacking our whole way in (taking the long way) and had to bushwack all the way back to the car (which we forgot to mark as a waypoint lol)... But we eventually made it back to the road. For a minute there, we thought we were going to be the next Blair Witch Project. The cache after the forest run was actually my 50th find!!! Yay! It was a beach access that Caraloopy actually found, but hey, I'll take the smiley! We also found a fun one that you had to write the log in haiku... It was located right in front of a Japanese restaraunt and it took me a while to catch the connection, so my haiku went like this: Look! A Japanese Restaraunt. Oh yeah, forgot Haikus are from there! When we got hungry enough to stop caching for a while, we decided to eat at a Mediteranian Restaraunt which was so good! All in all, today was a blast!
August 29, 2004 Today was our first day of caching together as husband and wife team... Tony found his first find today, which was hidden in a nest in a tree. It was perfect for his height which is why I didn't find it first. lol... We ended up with 5 more finds... We had fun. I wish we had remembered the camara... oh well.
September 14, 2004 We got our first MEFF!!! or FIRST TO FIND!!!! It took a lot of coaxing and a little bargaining to make Tony go caching with me for just one find, but we did. I wrote a whole story about it in the memorable caches section! I was so excited!!!
