| My Take on Some Concerts.......Remember, this is just MY opinion!! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Just a note.....on 9/30/99, i had the great honor of meeting the wonderful TORI AMOS live and in person......... I cannot say enough about what a wonderful singer/songwriter this talented woman is. If you ever get the opportunity to attend one of her concerts, by all means, GO!! Not only did I get to meet Tori, she was such a kind and caring person, she did not bat an eye when I very sheepishly requested she sign the booklet included in her "LITTLE EARTHQUAKES" cd for my grandson. Tori has helped so very many people who have suffered abuse......whether sexual abuse or spousal abuse. Please help support her foundation, R.A.I.N.N. They can be contacted at : http://www.rainn.org | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In 1999, 2000 , 2001 and 2004, I went to the Neil Diamond concert here in Houston. I cannot say enough about this wonderful entertainer!! As this was the 6th or 7th time I had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Diamond's concert, I was prepared to be a little disappointed. HOWEVER......The man still has the touch! He is one of the greatest entertainers (notice, ENTERTAINER, not just SINGER!!) that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live in concert. After the great disappointment of The Moody Blues concert, it was a great joy to see that Neil Diamond still has what it takes! If you have NEVER seen Mr. Diamond perform, you have missed out on one of the best music business shows. Thank you, Mr. Diamond, for being what you are......a great entertainer and a wonderful person! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On December 31, 1999, one of the best concerts I have been to in a long time took place, minus one of the bands. This was the ZZ Top/Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. While ZZ Top was top-billed at this concert, Lynyrd Skynyrd totally took center stage. Johnny Van Zandt continues the legend that his brother, Ronnie, started and sadly could not continue due to his tragic death in an airplane crash. Johnny has come into his own, and altho he sings the songs of his departed brother, when you now think of Lynyrd Skynyrd, you think of Johnny Van Zandt. This band had the entire place rockin' and up on their feet for almost 2 hours. When it came time for Skynyrd to leave the stage, there could be heard (if you had any hearing left at that point, that is! LOL) a collective sigh of disappointment that it was time for them to "exit stage left". ZZ Top, although a Texas band, did not live up to either the crowds expectations nor their legend. The sounds were great, but you would expect that a "hometown" band would play more than 5 songs, especially with them being the "main" band! Nope, did not happen. That's right, they only played 5 songs. And, to top it off, did not play LaGrange. Go figure! This was almost as much of a disappointment as the Moody Blues. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| IIn 2001, it was time for Rod Stewart! The man can still entertain, and that voice......WOW! This had to be one of the very best concerts I have ever had the pleasure of attending. Mr. Stewart sang all of his great songs and ballads, and had such high energy that you would never realize he is as old as he is. A pure entertainer, and a joy to watch. From the first chord of "MAGGIE MAY" to the last chord of "RHYTHM OF MY HEART", the crowd was enthralled. Keep on keepin' on, Rod! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Another 2001 concert was AC/DC. I should have been deaf by the end of that one! From "HELL'S BELLS" TO "ROCK ME ALL NIGHT LONG", no one was sitting down for this one. High energy and alot of fun at this one. Only bad thing about AC/DC concert was it was not long enough. They played for a good 2 1/2 hours, and it was such a let-down when they closed. Guess I am not as old as I thought I am if I can still survive a concert like that one! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On July 11, 2002, David Alan Coe played in Pasadena, Texas. This was the first time I had seen DAC in concert. His music is definately not for the run-of-the-mill crowd. While he sounded very good, the man looks like death warmed over. Too many years of running wild has definately taken it's toll on DAC. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
