Cub Scout News

Etowah Creek District, Pack 410

I was a cub scout for 4 years. I was promoted to Webelos in 1998 after earning my Bobcat,Wolf, and Bear badges, as well as 2 gold arrowpoints and 8 silver arrowpoints! I earned the following Webelos activity badges: fitness, communicator, aquanaut, scientist, scholar, forester, citizen, traveller, naturalist, artist, sportsman, geologist, and engineer. I earned the Fitness Award for Karate.  I also received my Webelos badge, compass emblem and 1 compass device. Last year I earned the God & Me knot and medal. That was a lot of work, but also fun.

One of my favorite things to do in Scouts is the Pinewood Derby. I won first place for Webelos I in my Pack last year. My car looked like a dragon. This year's car was "Roadkill's Revenge," and had a splatted possum on the front.  I made it to the semi-finals.

This picture is me and my dad when I got my God & Me knot at the March, 1998, Pack meeting.

Here's a flag ceremony I wrote recently for my Webelos badge.

Flag Ceremony

by David Shealy

2 Scouts will carry flags to the front of the room.

Leader: Salute the flag. (All will present scout sign)

Leader: The Preamble is the beginning of the Constitution, which is a document our forefathers wrote to tell us how to run the new country of the United States of America. As we read the preamble, think about what the writers said and what it means to us today.

Scout #1: We the people, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice and insure domestic tranquility..

Leader: This means they want to make a country that will treat its people fairly, and that they will have peace.

Scout #2: Provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity..

Leader: Some people need to help with the army and defense of the people of the United States so that we will be free forever. Nathan Hale said, I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.

Scout #3: Do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America

Leader: The forefathers agreed to follow the rules set up in the constitution. This is what has made our country the land of the free and the home of the brave. We, as scouts, have a duty to serve our country, our families, our leaders and our God, just like our forefathers did when they established the constitution.
