Tippy-Tap
Source: Footsteps, vol. 30

This is a little device to help with general hand washing. It can be hung in the bathroom and kitchen areas as a visual reminder for handwashing as a preventative health measure. It also helps to control waster used in handwashing, so that less water is wasted.
Materials:
        String
Plastic bottle with a handle or a calabash gourd with a long stem
        Candle
        Pliers
        Small nail

Gently heat the handle of the plastic bottle to soften the plastic, and pinch it closed. Use the nail to poke a few small holes in the upper portion of the handle.

OR
Cut a small hole in the gourd near the stem for when you need to fill the gourd later. If you can, try to find a cover for the hole to prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the gourd. Hollow out the gourd and drill holes in the stem.

Suspend the bottle in your washing area so that is hangs almost parallel to the groung, but slightly tipped upwards. Tie a string around the neck of the bottle to act as the handle to tip the bottle.

You can drill a hole in a piece of soap and attach it to the handle to make the handwashing hint even clearer. An old sardine tin or lid placed above the soap will keep it dry and prevent it from dissolving prematurely.

The local kettles used to wash before prayers can also be modified and hung to function in the same manner.
