Transfer medium #1:                Transfer medium #2                                                            :Transfer medium #3:                Transfer medium #4:
1 box gelatin                            1 part fish or animal glue, broken and soaked for 2 hours      12 grams glue                          120 grams glycerine
1 pint glycerine                         2 parts water                                                                        2 grams gelatin                        40 grams sugar
4 parts glycerine                                                                   7 1/2 ml water                        10 grams gelatin
2 grams sugar                         8 grams barium sulfate
Mix the transfer medium:
For transfer mediums 2 and 3, you need to let the glue sit in the water for
2 hours. Then the mixture is heated until all of the glue is dissolved.
For all of the transfer mediums, mix all of the ingredients together for 15
minutes (only 7 minutes for medium #1). Stir occasionally and skim off and
scum.
Pour the transfer medium into the shallow pan and allow it to cool for a
few hours (medium #1 needs to sit for a full day).

To use:

Write the message to be copied
with ink on good quality paper.
Dampen the transfer pad with a sponge
Place the paper, message side down, on
the transfer pad and smooth it
out. Leave it on the pad for 4-6
minutes.
Carefully remove the paper
Place a clean sheet of paper on the pad
and leave it there for 5-10
seconds
For each additional copy, leave the
paper on the pad for a longer
period of time.

When finished, wipe the pad with a wet cloth and cover it with a piece of
paper

The hectograph can be used again after 24 hours, and the gelatin can often
be re-cooked and reused
