Glues
Wheatpaste
Ingredients:
3 tbls wheat paste
1 cup + water
1 tbls sugar (optional)
Make a thin mixture
of flour and cold water. Heat 1 cup of water. When the water is hot, as
the flour mix and bring to a boil. Boil until mixture becomes thick. To
strengthen the glue, add the sugar after it thickens. Store in a sterilized
jar or in a refridgerator.
Rice
Paste
Ingredients:
1 Part rice flour
6 parts water
Heat and mix the
flour and water. Continue to stir while over the heat until a smooth consistency
forms.
Tree
sap
Place pieces of mahagany
sap (locally called dakandi) in a jar. Add just enough water to cover the
dakandi. Let the mix sit until it become a thick liquid and use as glue.
If the glue dries out, just add more water. Dakandi can be purchased at
lumos and looks like dark brown glass. Experiment with other saps if you
can.
Rubber
cement
Place some scrap
rubber in a glass jar and cover with kerosene. Allow the mixture to become
a sticky gel.
Styrofoam
Mix styrofoam with
kerosene until you get a thick sticky glue. This glue is reportedly good
for fixing canoes and results in a hard plastic bond. Be careful this mixture
is extremely flammable and will stick to a surface as it burns.
