SweetHearts vs Hot Shots
May 29, 2003 - Game #304

The game everyone was pointing to. The league's top two pitchers going face to face against each other. In the beginning it sounded good but things went bad - very bad - for the SweetHearts very quickly.

Meghan opened the game with her team mates getting three outs in five batters defensively. Then the Hot Shot's pitcher, Mandy, took the pound. In a performance right out of Meghan's season, Mandy struck out the first three batters.

In the second Meghan walked the first batter then batter two appeared to foul off a third strike and ran to first. The umps didn't see the tip therefore allowed the runner to go. A throw to first was too high, That was then overthrown to third and to home allowing both runners to score. It was definitely not the best effort by the SweetHearts or the umpires. Meghan closed out the inning with three Ks but the damage was done.

The Hot Shots came out and smoked the next three batters leaving the score 2-0 in their favor. In the third Meghan did magic of her own sitting down three straight batters capped off by a deep fly to center caught by Devin for the third out. The Hot Shots returned to the field for three more strike outs. It was turning into a classic pitcher's duel.

The fourth would again find the Hot Shots getting the first two batters on before a base clearing triple to centerfield would up the score to 4-0. Meghan would close the inning with three strike outs. Mandy would retake the mound getting two batters to strike out and one to weakly hit back to the mound for a easy toss to first to end the inning.

In the fifth Meghan matched Mandy's work picked up two more Ks and a weak hit to the mound which she tossed to first for an out. The 'Hearts came to the plate one final time trying to erase a 4-0 deficit but Mandy would have none of it. She got the first batter to strike out before allowing a dinky hit that the first baseman covered for an unassisted out. Mandy then followed that with a final out again hit to the first baseman to end the game.

Two good teams locked in a power struggle and errors by the SweetHEarts gave the victory to the Hot Shots, 4-0. The Hot Shot's Mandy struck out 10 batters while facing just 15. Meghan picked up 9 Ks in 23 batters upping her yearly total to 52 in five games.
