SweetHearts vs Chaos Looking back to the
SweetHearts very first game in 1983, there have been many ups and downs over
the years. Some make you smile and some make you wonder just what happened. Last
night’s game makes you wonder where things went wrong. It was billed as
a game between two teams that didn’t have pitchers, were struggling at
the plate, and made lots of fielding errors. When it was all over, the
SweetHearts were left still scratching their heads in disbelief. The ‘Hearts opened
the game with high hopes that they were about to turn things around at play a
solid game. It never materialized as Chaos could only manage to get one run across
the plate followed by three outs. On the mound, in the top of the first, we
started a new pitcher hoping to let the other team hit the ball and force
some easy outs. In the bottom of the first The ‘Hearts got Hayleigh on
and more her around to third quickly with stolen bases. That was followed by
Haley’s infield hit for out number one. A strike out later we had
finished our try to get ahead. The inning came to a close at 1-1. The top of the second was the
inning the ‘Hearts don’t want to relive as a parade of pitchers
came to the mound trying to stop Chaos as 13 batters came to the plate
scoring eight runs – mostly on walks and steals of home. The bottom
half of the inning gave the SweetHearts a glimmer of hope as the bottom of
the lineup hit and walked their way to four runs before poor base-running cut
the inning short. Score at the end of two was Chaos 9 – SweetHearts 5. The third shut the door on
the Home team white seven more runs on a continuing rotation of pitchers. The
time limit caught up with the ‘Hearts before they ever came back to bat
ending the game 16 – 5. Six different pitchers had tried to pitch as
the SweetHearts struggled to find one to get the ball over the plate consistently.
