20th Anniversary Season ~ Game # 286

The best way to describe this game was - "PooYie!" (Pooh-Yi). The ending of this game stunk. The first several innings were as exciting as you could get for an opening game of the season. The Twisters took the lead only to give it back, then tie it again, and finally go ahead before the bottom of the last inning - or what everyone thought would be the last inning. That was before the park's new "Curfew Rule" was put into effect killing a great game and reverting back five outs to a tie ball game.

The twisters opened the game with three quick runs before the SweetHeart's Meghan McLendon settled into her game. But the Hearts would way to show off their base running skills. In the bottom of the first they ran off six straight base runners to take an 8-3 lead.

The Twisters then inched closer with three more runs in the second before Bonnie Williams shut down the SweetHearts with a three up, three down inning. In the third the Twisters scored two more to tie the game.

After such a great first inning the 'Hearts couldn't get anything going as they stranded two base runners and had to settle for holding on to a tie.

In the fourth the Twisters scored one run on center field double. The SweetHearts came to bat knowing time was running out and this would be their last at bat. Kelsey Jones walked then stole second. The she stole third. A quick hit to first scored the run tying the game. One out. That was followed by a strike out.

"BALL GAME - CURFEW RULE!"

What?

The park's new rule stopped the game in it's tracks. A great game was cut short with the go ahead run at the plate. The SPAR rule eliminated five full outs and two runs as it send the score back to the previous full inning as if nothing ever happened.

Both teams were stunned. Neither team was happy with the outcome. The only word you could use was "Poo-Yie"!

Meghan pitch the full four innings giving up eight runs on eight hits, seven walks, and had five strike outs. Amanda Meche hit a double to right center.
