SweetHearts vs The Baseburners
Wednesday, May 21, 2008 - F14 – 5:30pm - Game #374

"Ties are like kissing your sister" Is one of the most common quotes about a tie game. However the game burst this myth as it was the best of both worlds. The Baseburners and the SweetHearts have been beaten up on so many times that a win by either team was a way to stay out of last place. Yet both coaches only wanted a "fun game" for the girls and that's exactly what they got. There were lots of runs, lots of hits, lots of scoring, and lots of happy fans in this 'best of all worlds' game.

First Inning: The 'Hearts began as normal by batting first since they never knew how their own pitching would go. The coaches were looking to a younger player to help pitch tonight because their veteran pitchers were just not getting the job done. As the inning started the SweetHearts batters did the normal 'at bats' by getting two walks followed by two strikeouts yet Shelby and Sammie stole home starting what would become a flood.

With two outs the floodgates opened as the 'Heats began to run and run and run. Walks, hits, hit batters turned into a base running exhibition as the next ten batters got on with eight crossing the plate before Savannah's bunt on her third strike was called foul.

Santana was chosen to come out from behind the plate in her first pitching assignment with a 10-0 lead. She managed to hold the Baseburners to just two runs in seven batters. Her nerves never showed has the first batter was out at first and she tacked on her first 'K'.

Second Inning: The 'Hearts came back to bat but the game settled down and they managed just two runs between the infield fly, dribble hit, and strikeout. Now it was the Baseburners turn to rally points on the scoreboard. Santana was still pitching but her control began to fade as the heat wore on. Walks and a massive right field homerun burned the 'Heats for seven runs closing the gap to 12-9.

Third Inning: The glories of the first inning faded away as the SweetHearts could no longer seem to score at will only adding two runs - one being Micaela's fourth homerun of the season. Santana was 'beat' after the last inning and coach moved players around on the infield. Brook took over pitching duties both never wanted to be there. She managed to get a strike out but walked four runs in before she was pulled for Santana.

Time was now a major factor as the parks "school time limit" was playing a factor. Santana came in and suddenly gave up a left field homerun to even the score. With just three minutes to play coach went out to tell her to slow the pitching down which she did. She walked the next two batters leaving the 'go ahead run at third as she and Courtney held the Baseburners to a tie ballgame
