SweetHearts vs Lady Tigers June 17, 2003 - Game #310 It rained today but not enough. All the park did was move our game from field 14 to field 5 on a different complex. It should have rained more. This season has been very hard on everyone as the team got blown out for their seventh straight loss. The game's outcome was never in doubt from the first batter. The Lady Tigers barely fielded enough players to avoid a forfeit as they started the game with 8 players. Their ninth player showed up before they finished batting the FIRST time through the lineup. All total they went through 12 batters scoring 9 runs as the SweetHearts could not make even the simplest of routine plays. Dropped throws, not being able to pick up a softball, and throwing to the wrong base even after they were told where to throw made for a very long inning. As the 'Hearts came to bat they found that the Tigers didn't have their regular pitcher either - it didn't matter. They managed to only squeak out two runs on a walk and a single by Natalie. The second was more of the same - LOTS more of the same. Every player on the 'Hearts was out of their normal positions due to pitching problems and players not showing up. The Lady Tigers took full advantage of the 'Hearts fielding errors in running up 13 more runs - 12 before the SweetHearts managed the first out. The bottom half saw the 'Hearts string together three good hits by K.K., Ashley, and Kelsey to get three more runs. The team considered calling
the game but went back on the field and gave up five more runs before Sara's
pitching began to improve. Even the fielding saw some better play. The
SweetHearts added two runs before losing game #7 in a row, 27-7.
