Megan, the SweetHearts very first batter, got on with a walk then stole enough bases to score the first run of the game on Alyssa's hit to shortstop. The excitement was short-lived as the next two batter struck out to end the inning. Defensively the team looked fairly sharp tonight but to no avail as the Longhorns pounded the ball all night long. Taylor's pitching was fine tonight. So good that almost every Longhorn batter got at least one good hit. By the end of the first inning the score was already 5-1. The Hearts pretty much just laid down their next two at bats. The second was three-up-three-down The third wasn't much better - four-up-three down. the Longhorns added three runs in the second and four in the third all on powerful hits including a homerun and several hits to deep centerfield. Leah came in to pitch the third and fourth innings In the fourth the 'Hearts managed a run following Taylor's double and steals. Jeannette was called out at the plate on a very, very close call on Taylor's double. The 'Horns managed three more runs in the fourth to up their total to 15. In the top of the fifth the SweetHearts managed three runs on Sam's walk, Katie being hit in the back by a pitch, and Michaela's walk.
