Tomorrow night the SweetHearts will play another added game by meeting their other rival, the Nightmares. The game will decide the season series since the 'Hearts won the first meeting and the Nightmares won the second.
What a night for softball. Both the SweetHearts and the Bayou Blasters found that their original opponents had forfeited their games. The SweetHearts then stepped in and got approval to play any open spots with other teams that just wanted a game. On Monday, the 'Hearts took on their first of four games this week playing one of their toughest rivals, and they did it without their ace pitcher.
The Blasters won the coin toss, therefore, the 'Hearts batted first. Surprisingly, against the Blasters star pitcher, Stacie Woods, they managed to open the game with three runs on the Ashlei Morrell, newcomer Courtney Hawkins, and Jessica Louviere's base running skills.
The excitement didn't last long as the Blasters came right back with two runs of their own before Stacie settled down and pitched a masterful game. By the end of two innings the Blasters were on top 5-4. By the end of three they had pulled away the score of 11-4. Everything looked hopeless for the SweetHearts.
Then came the play that changed the ball game. With Stacey batting in the bottom of the third, she hit a pitch that went straight up and caught her in the lower face cutting the inside of her lip. For the top of the fourth she did not come out to pitch. With the change, the SweetHearts took advantage scoring seven runs before Stacie came back in to get the last out, but not before the game had been tied at 11.
With the final half inning coming up, the 'Hearts Tristin Hager knew that she had to have a great inning to keep the Blasters from scoring. Tristin got the first batter to fly out to Ashlei Morrell at short. The next batter walked but that was followed by a strikeout. Now with the winning run at third and a powerful hitter at the plate Tristin threw a strike.
Next pitch. A hard shot to shortstop. Ashlei bobbled the ball, picked it up and made the best throw of the night, a bullet to first, beating the runner by a half step to end the inning - and the game in a tie. SPAR rules that no game will be played out and since this game was way past the time limit, both teams would have to settle for the 11-11 tie.
