SweetHearts Game Summary
SweetHearts vs Lady Gators, Wednesday, June 20, 2001
Makeup game from June 7
Game # 282

This was a great plan that almost worked. We decided to go with our slow-pitch pitcher and see if we couldn't play defense. Nothing else seemed to work. The Plan worked well in the beginning as we took an early 5-2 lead. The downfall was that several of our players decided not to show up so we were forced to play the game with only eight players leaving a HUGE hole in the outfield. It also meant we took an out in the number nine slot every time it came up. Those were the things that hurt us.

By the end of two innings we were down 10-9. In a very slow playing game we only managed to play three innings and lost 16-14. In the top of the third we were down one but let the Gators score six runs, many on walks as Caitin wore out, not having pitched a game in almost a year. The Hearts started the bottom of the inning with the number nine player - an automatic out. To win the game we had to score eight of the next eight batters with no outs since the ninth slot would again bring an automatic out.

The SweetHearts scored the first five batter/runners they had up and had the sixth at third when the Lady Gators recorded a strike out. At that point all Dedie could do was try to hit the ball hard and run none stop since the "batter" after her was the 'Auto-out' ending the game. It didn't happen and the Hearts lost again.
