SweetHearts vs
Lady Astros It ended with the winning coach even refusing to shake our hands. The SweetHearts played a hard fought game and lost by one run but the Lady Astros coach wanted to win by more – much more. She was yelling at her team to win 18-5. She was ugly to our players and coaches and just wasn’t satisfied to win by one run.
The game started of with the ‘Hearts getting one run on the base running of Cherie. In the bottom half of the first the Lady Astros could only match the one run making their coach nervous.
In the second the Astros went up 3-1 before the SweetHearts came alive scoring four runs in the third to take the lead again on hits by Cherrie, Tori M, Dana, and Natalie. Tori C. pitched the Lady Astros to three up and three down keeping the score 5-3.
In the fourth the ‘Hearts went down in three batters opening the door for the Astros to make their own comeback. And they did scoring three runs to set up a wild fifth inning finish.
The SweetHearts got Tori M. and Dana on base. Base running set the stage with Tori scoring on a dropped third strike with the catcher threw Natalie out at first. Game tied one out. Dana advanced to third. On a passed ball Dana tried to score and was tagged high but the umpired called her out. The last ‘Hearts batter struck out leaving the scored tied. Now all the SweetHearts could hope for would be a tied.
In the bottom of the fifth Walked the first three batters loading the bases before she hit the fourth batter forcing in the winning run. The Lady Astros got her win but not by the score she wanted.
As the teams lined up to cross the field to shake hands, the Astros coach turned her back an refused to take part in the time-honored tradition of shaking hands.
