SweetHearts vs The Krush
Thursday, June 8, 2006 - F14 - 5:30pm - Game #343

What a difference a day makes. Tonight the SweetHearts came ready to play and it showed right from the coin toss. Coach Greg allowed Alyssa to call the toss and she managed to get "home" for the team. The first time this season. Taylor came out pitching the best she has all season walking the first batter before striking out the next two. A single allowed the Krush to put a second runner on before the Heart defense shut down the inning. For the first time all season Leah didn't lead off getting on base but Blanche did. Very good base running and base stealing helped her score on a passed ball.

The next inning saw Taylor walked the first batter again before striking out the next and getting the next two to ground out in routine infield plays. The Hearts came back to score again when Katie (who just returned to the team from a foot injury) scored on a catcher error. The score now stood at 2-0.

Then Krush came alive in the third when they got back to the top of their order. They now seemed to know Taylor's pitching plus Taylor began to tire giving up a single, a walk, hitting a batter, then three more hits. She managed to get another strike out but looked very sluggish doing it. Leah was called it to finish off the inning. She tossed one pitch forcing the batter to hit to the second baseman  for the out. The Hearts were down 4-2 suddenly.

The advantage was that our top of the order was up and they too had seen the other pitcher now. Leah lead off with a walk, Blanche struck out but not before Leah stole three bases for the run. Jeanette walked. She too took advantage to the Krush catcher's mistakes. Taylor got on, followed by Amanda, and Megan. The bases were now loaded with one out. The Hearts began their "cat and mouse" game with the Krush catcher. Megan was leading off first with a huge lead hoping to draw the throw. Suddenly she did. Taylor was caught off-guard and got a slow jump from third and was tagged out at the plate. Two outs. Katie got on loading the base again and once more the Hearts began to toy with the pitcher and catcher. This time the throw was off and Amanda and Megan scored. Katie moved to third. Alyssa got a walk then stole second. Michaela got a hit and two pitches later was on third. A passed ball scored her too. The Hearts were now up 9-4.

Taylor went out for the fourth and was told if she walked two Leah would be called in. It must have worked Taylor shut the Krush down on six pitches and some masterful defensive work including a fly ball hit to right field and caught by Michaela.  That was followed by a sharp hit to Blanch at third who made an "on the money" throw to first. The final out came when Krush hit a grounder right to Alyssa (Taylor's sister) at first base.
