SweetHearts vs The Lady Renegades

Never enough players could be the song that preceded this game yet with just eight players Coach Adrian said "at least it's not a forfeit!". And he was right.

First Inning: The SweetHearts continued their string of batting first in every game this season based on what has normally happened as soon as they take the field. Tonight's game looked different from the very start. Shelby began the night getting hit by the very first pitch, followed by Sammie's walk. Terrah got a base hit followed by Micaela getting hit. Savannah and Brook got walked and the score just kept mounting. Freja got hit and Courtney got a walk before the "ninth batter" was called out as the 'Hearts played short handed.  Two strike outs later and the 'Hearts had posted a 6-run half-inning. However, they knew what could happen very quickly.

Micaela headed to the mound and before the infield could get settled in, walks and base hits had produced four runs. It looked like "more of the same" before routine base hits to the pitcher cut the Lady Renegades off at five runs

Second Inning: "Winning?" The SweetHearts had never had this happen this year. As they came to bat things looked much different as the players looked more confident. Suddenly Terrah got a looping double, Micaela got hit again and three walks before Shelby's base hit netted the 'Hearts four more runs.  Micaela went to the mound and had her best inning yet as she only had to face five batters due to infield pop-ups. As the team looked at the scoreboard they were up 10-6 and time for just one more inning.

Third Inning: Now the SweetHearts had to play smart to hold the lead. Terrah grounded out and Micaela got to first on a dropped third strike. Savannah grounded out and suddenly there were two outs and the 'Hearts needed runs. Brook go hit by a pitch and while Freja battled  for a walk, Micaela scored As Courtney fought off pitches Brook managed to score the second run of the inning. Now it was up to the defense to hold the score.

Micaela tossed a strike out. Two to go. The Renegades hit the ball and put one on. A dropped third strike put another runner on. A routine hit to third was sailed to first for out two. Sigh! A walk, another walk, a double, a single and the score was now 12-11. One run separates us from them.  A dropped third strike tossed by Brook to Terrah for the out and "game over". The SweetHearts had their first "real" win of the season.
