SweetHearts vs Slammers
Thursday, June 7, 2007 - F14 - 5:30pm - Game #355

Tonight was the tale of two lessons - The one Coach taught and the one the SweetHearts learned. It was also the tale of two games - the first inning when coach taught, the 'Hearts lost 12 - 0 and ended a perfect season. Then there were innings 2-3-4 were the 'Hearts learned he was coach for a reason and they went on to out score the Slammers 6-1.

First Inning: After last night of whining and complaining "I want to play such and such", "Why do I always have to bat number so and so?" coach gave in and put people were they thought they should be. And he let them play and bat that way until the whole first inning was over.  The game started off with the 'Hearts doing nothing at the plate - three up and three down - two by strike outs. Leah then went to the mound to "start" like she has asked many times. By the time she left the top of the inning she had struck out two, walked six, given up six hits, hit a batter and allowed 12 runs to score. It wasn't all the pitcher though. The catcher, Jeannette, had 19 passed balls, an overthrow at second, plus several other catching mistakes. The fielding was no help either as they threw the ball away several times throwing "behind" the runners.

Second Inning: A brief meeting at the end of the first had coach pointed out that he was "coach for a reason...I know where you best help your team...now lets go show them who we are!"  Micaela started it off with a single and eventually stole home but the rest of the team struggled through two strikeouts and a routine ground out. Now Taylor took the mound and control of the game striking out the first two before the Slammers sneaked one run across.

Third Inning: In the third the 'Hearts managed to get their timing down against a very good Hackberry pitcher. Blanche and Taylor both got on and scored. Taylor again controlled the Slammers in just four batters.

Fourth Inning: The fourth saw the Hearts get rolling and scoring three more runs. Then Taylor closed out the game in four batters - the final one being a strike out.

The Slammers won the "teaching lesson"  first inning 12-0 but only managed one additional run in the next three inning. The 'Hearts learned a very tough lesson since they were/are the team to beat and they watched their perfect season disappear. They also showed that they are not to be messed with as they won the "second" game 6-1.
