SweetHearts vs Angels
Wednesday, June 6, 2007 - F13 - 5:30pm - Game #354

Let's start with SPAR and ASA rules on forfeits:

"A Team must start a game with nine players. The "short-handed rule" is in effect when one team can only field eight players. This team automatically becomes the visitors and will have two and a half innings in which to get that 9th player to make the game a regulation game. If a team does not get that 9th player by that time the game will be called and a "forfeit" declared."

The Angels started with seven players and finished with eight.

Therefore tonight's game was a forfeit however the 'Hearts played as if the game did matter at all and lost to the six player Angel's team 9-6. There was only one real bright spot when Micaela hit a home ( and did not sling the bat).

First Inning: Taylor opened the game pitching in front of her grandparents from out of state. She immediately walked the first two batters, gave up a hit, and walked the next one before getting two outs. The third out came at the hands of the umpire when the Angel's base runner was caught off base before the pitch. By then however, four runs had scored. The 'Hearts opened their half of the inning with Leah striking out, Jeannette getting a walk, Sammi striking out and Blanche grounding out to first.

Second Inning: The SweetHearts put Micaela on the mound and she walked the first three batters she faced. Taylor came back walked one before getting the next three outs to stop the Angels at four more runs. The 'Hearts came to the plate down 8-0. Michaela struck out followed by walks to Taylor, Savannah, and Terrah before Tracy and Leah ended the inning. The SweetHearts finished the inning with three runs.

Third Inning: Leah came in to pitch and gave up only one run while striking out two. The 'Hearts tried to rally late following Jeannette's opening strike out. Sammi walked, Blanche got a hit, and Michaela got her first formal homerun of the season. Taylor then struck out before Terrah dribbled a slow hit to second for a force at first. The 'Hearts had come up four runs short against a team with only seven players.

How do you lose a forfeit to a team with less players? The SweetHearts showed how tonight.
