SweetHearts vs Lady Renegades
Tuesday, May 15, 2007 - F14 - 5:30pm - Game #350

After a night of powerful thunderstorms, The SweetHearts got a second chance to play game # 350. Under overcast and threatening skies the Hearts managed to take the field. Again we called "home team" under rubbles of thunder. Taylor looked a little shaky through the first six batters giving up several walks. Coach Greg asked her if she was trying to use up all the pitcher options? She walked several, struck out one, hit one batter, and gave up a hit before she was pulled for Leah. Leah too had her struggles. Taylor finally admitted that she was afraid of the thunder and lightening.

However after seeing Lean walk several and then hit a batter and we still didn't have three outs, she got mad and wanted back in the game. After re-entering the game Tay put on her game face and took control getting the next two batters out. The Lady Renegades scored four runs as the Hearts limped through the top on the first.

On offense the team looked a little out of rhythm as singled followed by Jeannette. Sammy struck out followed by Blanche's single scoring Leah and Jeanette. Blanche then got thrown out stealing second. and Savannah got thrown out at first still carrying her bat.

The second inning look more like the SweetHearts of old. They still walked three batters but struck out the others and held the Renegades to no runs. In the bottom of the inning the 'Hearts started clicking like they should running the bases at will scoring five runs on solid base running and hard hits. The top of the third found the rain coming down and the umpires calling the games leaving the 'Hearts winning 7-5.

(innings 3-6)

We began our make-up or completion game with the umpires deciding we had 30 minutes left to play. However they didn't tell Coach Greg. Little did we know this was going to the be most exciting 30 minutes of softball this year. Leah was allowed to start the Third inning and walked the first two batters, struck out one and walked three more allowing four batters to cross the plate. Coach knew the way the team had been scoring runs the last several games that it would be no problem to catch however he still put Taylor back in to shut things down for the Lady Renegades. Taylor walked one before getting the next two batters to ground out. Then the excitement started. Coach Greg asked the score keeper then score and she also mentioned the umpires were about to call the game in about 10 minutes. Suddenly the pressure was on, down by two runs he had to work quick.

Savannah led out but struck out, Taylor popped out. With two outs Megan walked followed by Terrah. Then Shelby. got on as the 'Hearts tied the game. Micaela came up and smashed a deep centerfield homerun to win...oops, she was called out for slinging her bat after being warned in the previous game. Three outs, score tied, three minutes to play.

The ump stated that as a player she too hated to have games end in ties. Therefore, she let the teams play another inning. Taylor went back to the mound knowing the game was in her hands. She hit the next two batters before getting one out on a routine grounder to second, then striking out the next two.

In the bottom of the inning the 'Hearts knew they only needed one run and they had the top of the lineup coming up. Leah got a walk and Jeannette helped her get around the bases by being a smart batter. Leah finally scored on a wild pitch to end the game, 10-9. What a scare.
