The MGSA was founded in 1981 to assist players, coaches, and parents of girls playing softball in the Maplewood area of Sulphur, Louisiana. The first president elected was Martha Thompson. The association operated during the 1981 season and then fell idle in 1982. In 1983 a new coach asked about the association and it was restarted from the remaining $300 in the MGSA account. He, Greg English, was then elected president and with help from original members, the MGSA began anew. It has grown in size each year and in 1995 changed its official name from Maplewood Girls Softball Association to Maplewood Girls SPORTS Association so as to include basketball.
Below is a copy of the current MGSA bylaws.
