Drakkin Empire of Enzan Shi

Kayun's Offering To Tolethven

Kayun hung boredly around Rileikoul with the dreary Nondar while he waited for a new set of cubs to be offered. He had strict orders to present his offering to Tolethven and only Tolethven. And from what he had heard of Dwathro and Inrahi, he had no intention to go near those two. No sense of humour and extremely expensive tastes.

No, for Tolethven he could even make his own little objects. He was a powerful mage after all, third of Khila Silae Dungortheb, with only Aikanaro and Ten'oio better than him. He had a feeling he was their superior in some aspects, no matter what they said!

He twiddled his thumbs for a while, wondering what the Lord Breeder would want. His offering would have to be good for the man to accept it. And he probably would not want the baubles Inrahi appreciated or the powerful magics Dwahro would like. No, he would want something humourous.

Kayun opened his eyes with a start of inspiration. Yes, he had not lived on Mor Vanim, so he would not find such things as they had used for amusement drab and boring. He chuckled at the very thought. Collars that changed colors randomly, shoes that constantly tap-danced, dresses that tended to fly upwards when the wearer was impresed by someone... Yes, this would be fun.

At the end of a few weeks' hard work, Kayun looked at his trinkets with pride. Along with the original offering, he thought he stood a good chance with Tolethven. That is, if Tolethven was the next to open up a burrow-full of drakkin-lings.

To his delight - and Nondar's grunt of acknowledgement - the next burrow-full was Tolethven's. So, Kayun got directions to the Lord Breeder's manor and headed there on the very day news reached him. He had all his precious magical items and a few odd creatures that Hele'nysar liked to eat in their caves. Helevorn had admitted that such little creatures - miniature rodents - were not native to Rileikoul. Which was good for Kayun.

He had done a lot of research about the Lord - it was amazing what one could learn by asking simple questions about loved sports - in his time in the drow city. Supposedly he liked humourous objects that embarassed others, odd little things and he was supposedly a tad insane. Kayun grinned. If any of Khila Silae Dungortheb was to deal with a supposedly insane Lord, it was him. After eight-some years dead and alive, he was barely considered sane. He had not taken easily to the life of a vampire.

Tolethven was also reknown for his keeping an albino offspring. This, Kayun found facinating. For all that he would never be able to live with a complete failure at fighting, he found albinos interesting. They were a genuine mutation and could be beaten so easily in the arena, it was surprising they showed up in strong pairings. Kayun wondered why this happened.

When he reached the Lord's manor, he knocked boldly on the door. A drakkin snarled from inside and - as the drow inside opened the door - he caught a glimpse of a small pinkish white drakkin. The drow looked at him as if surprised to have a visitor. Kayun smiled and bowed to him. "Lord Tolethven?" He asked, and the dark elf nodded. "I bring an offering on one of your drakkin hatchlings from the colony of Khila Silae Dungortheb."

The drow's face broke into a smile. "Well, then, come on in! Come in! Come in indeed!" He said jovially.

Kayun followed him in and the drow suddenly turned as soon as the door closed. "Have you anything... unusual for me, wanna-be-trainer?" He asked eagerly.

The vampire grinned slightly. "Not just anything, my good Lord, but many things." He replied.

"Ah, good! I do like unusual little trinkets." He said, nodding and showing Kayun to a slight indent in the floor.

There lay a purple drakkin. She snarled at Kayun, but the vampire simply smiled good naturedly back at her. She stood up, her snarl stopped mid-breath, and showed him three eggs. The vampire raised an eyebrow at that. Only three? But Tolethven had announced they would be special. So he trusted the man. Drow.

When the drakkin female lay back down, the drow led him to a table. He motioned to the vampire and Kayun understood. He was to show his offering now.

Kayun took out his first object with a grin. It was a pair of bottom underclothes that sparkled gold. "These make the wearer have an aura of gold." He explained, putting them on the table.

He took out object after object, slowly cluttering the table. However, Tolethven showed no approval nor disapproval to the items. When his first offering was laid out on the table, he looked evenly at the drow lord.

1 set of aura-inducing underwear
1 hat with cup-holders [including straws which are attached to the cup-holders and hang to wearer's mouth]
2 color-changing shirt-collars
5 sets of color-changing cuffs
2 pairs of tap-dancing shoes
2 pairs of highland-dancing shoes
2 pairs of waltz-dancing shoes
1 flying dress
4 cup-holders that attached to sleeves
1 roll of bright purple and green rope that followed its owner everywhere [just in case]
15 glowing rodents for drakkin-food
1 Palanthean* tooth necklace
1 sword that pictures the bearer's main thought on the pommel
3 daggers with hilts like drakkin horns

Tolethven's expression was neutral while Kayun unloaded his hoard of interesting little trinkets. It remained so for a moment as he was evenly regarded by the young vampire, but soon broke into a wide, pleased grin. He then proceeded to rifle through the items himself, stopping here and there to examine them in more detail.

The dress was excellent, but how could he possibly get Inrahi to wear it? She wouldn't trust him farther than she could throw him. That one would take some thought.

The plastic hat with cup-holders, on the other hand, was a no-brainer. He was wearing it to the next contest for sure, perhaps with the underwear and the necklace. It would certainly be attention-grabbing and there was no reason not to.

But the real question was...could drakkin be persuaded to wear shoes if they were molded to fit?

Remembering the young man before him with a start, he looked up from his play to find that they were no longer alone with Cha-kinale. As-ny was also in the room and he was looking curiously at Kayun. The vampire was looking back just as curiously, if not more so.

"Ahem," he coughed lightly, amused at the quick shift of attention towards him. "All of this is wonderful, and quite usable. Exactly the kind of things I was hoping to get when I agreed to offer to foreigners. There's only one thing more I'll need from you before I accept your offer."

"Oh? And what might that be?" Kayun asked, looking slightly worried.

Tolethven waved his hand reassuringly, at the same time silently instructing his albino. "It's nothing you need to bring me, just a quick little test. Don't worry. Now...can you hear anything."

Both men paused, and very quietly in the back of his mind Kayun heard a light singing. As he concentrated on the words, he realized what exactly was being sung.

I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves, everybody's nerves, I know a song that gets on everybody's nerves and this is how it goes...

After about a dozen fast repetitions he realized the drakkin wasn't going to stop and quickly assured Tolethven that yes, he heard just fine, thank you, make it stop. The breeder grinned, impressed with how long he'd held out. Few people could stand more than two or three if they could hear it at all. He could get up to about a hundred himself before he started twitching.

"Well then, congratulations. Your offer has been accepted."

Kayun grinned. "Thank you, good sir." He said, bowing slightly.

The Lord Breeder nodded to him. "As-ny will show you to the door." He replied. "Thank you for coming."

Kayun nodded and obediently followed the albino. The pink-skinned creature looked back at him when they reached the door and began to sing again. The vampire laughed slightly. "Yes, I can hear you." He said, taking the door handle in his hand. "So your trainer is not crazy, or I am crazy too."

The albino backed away as Kayun slipped back outside. He thought he saw the creature watching through a window, but he could be mistaken. He headed back to his quarters with Nondar. He grinned at the thought of the other vampire. Kayun had kept a pair of shoes for himself. And had given them to Nondar.

As he opened the door, Nondar came waltzing towards him. "Get these blasted things to stop!" He commanded, swinging around and waltzing in the other direction.

Kayun burst into a fit of laughter at that. "After I inform Ten'oio that I've been accepted." He replied, with no intention to do so.

Kayun opened a Portal in the wall and sat down in a chair facing it. He had opened it straight to the lead vampire's office. "Ten'oio!" He called, making the vampire twitch in response.

"Ah, Kayun! Finally some progress?" She asked, spinning in her own chair.

"Of course, otherwise I wouldn't be bothering you." He replied, grinning.

"You're in a good mood." She observed. "Good news?"

"I've been accepted by Lord Breeder Tolethven. Of course, I didn't use the entire offering you sent me. I more... made my own." The younger vampire answered.

"Oh? And he liked your trinkets?" The only female vampire of Khila Silae Dungortheb inquired.

"Indeed." He replied. "Nondar is currently wearing an example of the shoes I made him. Nondar! C'mere!"

The vampire growled low in his throat, waltzing around the room. "I'm gonna kill you, runt-ling." He snarled.

Ten'oio laughed at the sight of him. "Come now, Nondar, it could be worse!" She said good-naturedly.

"How?" The vampire asked, trying to stay near enough to hear her.

"You could be wearing the dress I modified!" Kayun said instantly.

Nondar glared at him and Kayun smirked. "I suggest you start being nicer, Nondar, or I'll never make those shoes stop." He warned.

The other vampire rolled his eyes and waltzed away. Ten'oio smiled at her underling. "Good job, Kayun." She praised. "Report back after you've been given a drakkin."

He nodded and went to rescue Nondar, who was about to go into the street.

* A Palanthean is a huge shark-hydra from Mor Vanim. It grows up to seven heads and its teeth change color randomly when it dies. These teeth are about half a thumb's length.
