Drakkin Empire of Enzan Shi

The Arena Opens

"Are you sure it's this way?" Helevorn asked for the umpteenth time, driving Kayun slightly crazy.

"Yes, I'm sure." He growled through clenched teeth. Mentally, he asked Kay-chatos to go ahead and see how far it was.

"I wonder which drakkin Dwahro himself is entering..." The wolf-shifter mused, actually talkative for once.

Why did he have to be talkative when it was most annoying? Kayun wondered. He contented himself in dwelling in morbid silence. Khila Silae Dungortheb could enter two drakkin per Contest. It only seemed right that Hele'nysar got the right to prove himself. Kayun only hoped that the vampire and shifter empire did not disgrace itself.

Ten'oio, obviously, would want to come to the arena for the battles. It would be a good time for her to show herself to the public. Kayun and Helevorn would be there to instruct their drakkin and Aikanaro would probably accompany their lady.

The young vampire found a bitter taste in his mouth at the thought of Ten'oio's second. Despite all the favors she bestowed him, Aikanaro remained above. Was it because she liked the other vampire in a more than friendly way? Then again, why should he honestly care? He had an eternity to find himself a female.

Kayun nearly kicked himself. Why was he thinking of these things when he was on his way to fight? He was a pathetic vampire. With a snarl, he kicked at the ground in front of him. It did him no good, only a small pain in his foot. The drakkin were not the only ones who needed to be let loose once in a while.

They reached the large rock stadium and Kayun calmly strode up to it. Kay-chatos walked back to his side and Kayun scratched behind his horns. The drakkin crooned softly, enjoying the caress, before Kay-chak bounded forward. The vampire, wolf-shifter and other drakkin followed.

Once they reached the inside, Kayun looked around. He turned to Helevorn. "I think I had better see to the sign up." He said softly. "The drakkin should be kept out of the light."

The wolf-shifter nodded agreeably. "I'll watch them, if you order them to stay here." He answered.

Kayun looked at his pair. Stay. He ordered mentally and forcefully. Kay-chak grumbled and shifted his weight but sat at Helevorn's feet. Kay-chatos sat obediently as soon as the command was given.

The vampire wound his way through the halls marked with black and pale silver. He found a room with a list of the competing drakkin on it and looked around. He found sheets of paper on which to place one's drakkin's stats and a little slit through which to put the completed forms. The vampire filled out both Hele'nysar and Kay-chak's sheets then signed Kay-chak's. He asked Kay-chatos to lead Helevorn to him.

The wolf-shifter came and signed his drakkin's right to fight. They then placed the sheets into the slit and left the arena. Kay-chak and Hele'nysar were entered to fight.

For this contest, the first of the new cycle, the arena was completely packed. Tens of thousands of drow swarmed throughout the seating and searched for the very best view that wasn't taken already. This would definitely be a contest to remember. Along with several competitions between residents, there was to be held the first ever made up entirely of foreigners - and the sponsoring breeder, but that was a given.

Lord Dwahro was the first sponsor of a foreign competition, as was only fitting. He was first in everything regarding drakkin and allowed no one to challenge that statement. He was currently seated in his own comfortably cushioned chair (black wood with silver cushions, of course) and chatted with Lady Inrahi, who sat next to him, bedecked in her very favorite drakkinhide gown. A ruby jewelry set received from an offworld buyer provided the perfect accompaniment. Needless to say, she looked quite lovely and many men seated in her general vicinity enjoyed the view immensely.

The two of them had arrived somewhat early, wanting to be there when their foreign guests arrived. Six offworld trainers were expected: Gabrin, Melf, Killashandra DeKrys, Tytula, Helevorn, and Kayun. Along with the last two would be the leader of their empire, Lady Vampire Ten'oio and her second, a vampire named Aikanaro. Dwahro was most interested in meeting the lady, curious what sort of personality would rule an empire of vampires and shifters.

The trainers arrived in one large block, having just come from tending their drakkin and doing any last-minute preparations they needed to be ready for their first competition. Though most of them held themselves very well, it was patently obvious that they were all nervous to some degree. Each of them had one drakkin entered in the contest.

Before any of them could utter a word of greeting or respect to the lord and lady, the third breeder decided to join them...glowing brightly gold and wearing both a color-changing tooth necklace and a plastic drink hat. The other two stared at him in absolute shock, unable to comment. It was all Kayun could do not to crack up when he caught sight of Tolethven. His gifts were clearly visible and the man looked utterly ridiculous. Very pleased with himself, too.

"Good day!" he said brightly to all of the assembled, tipping his hat. "Good day for a fight, hm?"

Inrahi could be heard to mutter, "Idiot," under her breath. Dwahro said nothing, just inclined his head and motioned for the breeder to sit. He did so, spirits by no means dampened, and turned to Kayun.

"How's your friend been holding up under the pressure?" he asked the vampire before taking a sip from his hat. Kayun looked at him blankly for a moment, not quite understanding what he was referring to. "The stuck-up dancing one," Tolethven clarified. "How's he been handling my daughter?"

"Your...daughter," the vampire restated, still not understanding.

The glowing drow looked slightly exasperated. "What, don't tell me he hasn't noticed! Kosca's been stalking him for a good two years now, ever since he did that jig at the hatchling event."

Kayun's eyes widened slightly. That explained quite a bit, and Nondar still didn't know who it was. Should he tell the man? Or let him suffer some more? The choice was obvious...

He would've replied, but noticed Dwahro sharply turn his head to look at something off to the side and looked as well. Lady Ten'oio had arrived, dressed boldly in black leather and looking...dangerous. Lovely, but dangerous. This image was further enforced by her sharply fanged grin. Aikanaro was only a few steps behind her, his blue eyes glinting as he took in his surroundings. The two of them had arrived just in time, as the contest was to start very soon.

Lord Dwahro stood in greeting, his own eyes discreetly appraising the lady and coming up with his own assumptions. From what those who knew him could tell, he was...impressed. She certainly fit what he'd been told and he would find it interesting to hear her comments throughout the battle. Inrahi was less impressed, but that was only to be expected. All women were regarded as rivals. Tolethven was interested, but not overly so. He found Kayun more interesting than most of his companions, leader included. They all exchanged polite greetings, with the lady doubtless forming her own opinions.

Suddenly a loud gong-like blast sounded and the entire arena fell into an expectant hush. Everyone leaned forward in interest, regardless of age, gender, or occupation. Blood sports were what these drow delighted in, what they lived for. This sudden, intense concentration could also be seen in the breeders, all three of them. The first match was about to begin...

Ten'oio sat near to the breeders as the gong sounded. Aikanaro sat at her right, his eyes sharp and warning to any whom dared approach his lady. Kayun was watching the battle grounds intently. Helevorn was competing in the first battle.

The lady vampire peered down at the arena as Hele'nysar and Juz walked onto the grounds. Dwahro took his place at the trainer's end opposite Helevorn. Ten'oio watched the battle with her blood pounding. She noticed her two sub-ordinates' eager eyes and constant baring of their fangs. She delicately, but forcefully, pulled them both back into their seats. "This is not the time." She whispered softly, her own eyes glinting.

As it turned out, Hele'nysar lost to Juz. The lady vampire smirked to herself. "No endurance, though I'd say he triumphed in combat." She mused. "However, Juz had the brains and the luck this time around."

The next battle was between an older drakkin and one of Hele'nysar's siblings. A green and a bronze. Kayun was watching avidly this time, not so compelled by the blood lust as before. "Daskyv'i has all the combat skill." He muttered.

"Peturmiles has a tad more tactics." Aikanaro put in.

"But the bronze is luckier today." The lady vampire concluded.

The three vampires were oblivious to their surroundings. Helevorn did not return to sit with them. Perhaps he feared Ten'oio's wrath, but the vampire had no intention to render him miserable. In fact, she was proud of his brown drakkin. Males could only be so powerful, after all, and it was his first combat.

The next battle was between a red and a purple, both of Dwahro's stock though the purple belonged to an offworlder. They were well matched and only luck brought out Siar as the winner. Aikanaro smiled, his pointed teeth barely visible. "An okay match." He mused. "Now let's see how Kay-chak will do."

Kayun stood so that his own purple could see him. Nosgoth was their opponent. Ten'oio leaned forward in spite of herself. Kay-chak fought valiantly, enough to make the vampire leader proud, yet failed due to Nosgoth's luck. The purple, however, was smarter.

"And Kayun said this one was the least intelligent of his pair..." She whispered to Aikanaro as the other vampire went to tend his drakkin.

There was a small break before round two as the drakkin needed to be healed. Kayun and Helevorn rejoined them then. Ten'oio welcomed both her underlings with a smile. "Good fighting both of you." She said, motioning for them to sit. "We'll need to work on Hele'nysar's intelligence needs some work. Kay-chak will need to work on his combat skills, Kayun."

The two took this 'advice' of sorts easily and Ten'oio settled back in her seat. Even though there was blood and pain, the following battles were rather drab. In fact, you could call them downright boring. However, Ten'oio became even more determined to secure herself a drakkin of her own.

"Kayun!" She barked as she was leaving and her vampire about to leave.

He turned to face her. "Yes, milady?" He asked.

"You are to inform me when one of those twin blues returns with a clutch." She said waspishly.

"As you wish, milady." The vampire agreed and bowed his way out of her presence.

Ten'oio growled low in her throat, though not out of anger. In fact, as she opened a Portal home after paying due courtesy to others, Aikanaro commented on it. "What has put you in such a fabulous mood, milady?" He asked.

She smiled - slightly cruelly - before answering. "These drakkin are well worth the investment. For the drow's pleasure and amusement as well as our own."

He nodded and they swept back into the Khila Silae Dungortheb underground fortress. They would return to Rileikoul when another contest was held or when a blue twin clutched.
