Summer 2000

Summer 2000 saw me experimenting with building small internal combustion locomotives, affectionately known as "critters" these are battery operated locomotives that are manually controlled by actual levers in the cab!

Here is my very first critter. its based on a 1.5 ton Brookville known as a Cranberry Special. The most well known example of this type of locomotive belongs to Bobber gibbs and is known affectionately as "Winky". My JRVP also liked that name, so we named our model Winky as well!

Here we see Winky again toting a tipper car. The Bachmann Track is apparent in both these photos. The tipper car began life as a hartland product, and was modified with a scratchbuilt chasis

Winky is on the job! Shoving a cut of tipper cars into the jobsite. shes still on the Anns Creek line, apparently involved in some track upgrades!

It must be lunchtime and the crew has gone off to find a shady spot leaving Winky and her short train tied down in the summer sun.
