This puzzle is though to come from China, but little is known about its true origins. The Chinese name for the puzzle is Chi-Chiao which translated into English means The Seven Clever Pieces or The Seven Wisdom Puzzle. The object of the puzzle is to form shapes using the seven pieces shown above.

Instructions: Print out this page and cut the square into the seven pieces as shown by cutting along the lines given. Then arranging the pieces you now have, try to make the following pictures. You can make your own pictures out of the tangram pieces as well.  First, arrange them to make a picture of your own.  Then take those pieces and trace them onto a piece of paper so that you can give your new puzzle to someone else.
