Activity A: Appropriate Units

List as many things as you can find within the classroom that would be most appropriately measured in mm, cm, dm, or m. Don’t forget to include those things which you can measure circumference (the distance around something circular) – please mark these entries with a “C”.

What distance in the school neighborhood would be most appropriately measured in kilometers (km)?

Choose one item from Section A. Explain, using pictures, numbers, and/or words why you chose this unit of measurement.

Activity C:

Take 7 objects from your table, including at least 2 circular objects, and complete the following. Try to show two ways to measure the same thing, for example, if your pencil is measured in cm, show how many mm long it is as well.
