What's New for 2001/02 Ski Season NEW DOUBLE-DOUBLE CHAIRLIFTS HIGHLIGHT IMPROVEMENTS FOR WINTER 2001/02 For Immediate Release September 4, 2001 Shawnee on Delaware, PA -Shawnee Mountain has been buzzing with activity this fall as construction nears completion on $1.5 million in improvements for the coming 2001/02 Ski Season scheduled to begin in late November. The major improvements, all of which will be ready for the start of this ski season, include two new lifts, ski lodge renovations, new rental equipment and snowmaking system upgrades. The new Partek Double-Double Chairlifts are replacing the older two Lookout Lifts on Shawnee Mountain which have been retired. Side by side and stretching 3,200' from the base area to the summit, the new twin lifts are stylish, state of the art and share the same double-double tower system. Combined uphill capacity for the new lifts is 2,400 skiers per hour. Along with the improved lift system, Shawnee's' winter sports enthusiasts will find renovations in the Hope Ski Lodge including a refurbished cafeteria, remodeled restrooms and a new NCR network cafeteria/restaurant/bar register system. As part of a multi-year program to upgrade its massive rental shop, Shawnee Mountain has purchased 850 pairs of new Dynastar Shaped Skis with Salomon Bindings, 200 new Original Sin Snowboards with Switch Bindings, 300 new pair of Vans Snowboard Boots and 200 pairs of new Dalbello Ski Boots. The Shawnee Mountain Rental Shop, which is the largest of its kind under one roof in the country, is able to outfit over 4500 customers. Over its 27-year history, Shawnee Mountain has earned a reputation for aggressive snowmaking, quality grooming and long ski seasons. Demonstrating this continued commitment to dependable snow conditions this years snowmaking upgrades include new high efficiency HKD tower mounted snow guns providing additional snowmaking punch. For the past four consecutive winters Shawnee Mountain has provided the Pocono Region's longest ski seasons.
