The gaping maw of the entrance to the Caverns. See that thin horizontal line? That's the ROOF of the cave. Mom (bundled up in that thick green coat) didn't want to come, but she came because I went with the Boy Scouts, and she didn't want me to be the only girl. I can handle a crapload of boys with no help -- I don't know what she was worried about!

And from the inside. Would we ever make it out alive? Only time would tell...

We made it out alive, needless to say, but the best part of the trip was yet to come. This beautiful little spring right alongside the road was the epitome of the outing. Pity that it was located in an area so backwoodsy that we feared that we would be shot at by the people who owned the land if we dawdled over their waterhole too long.
