There had to be a last time
When I would courageously head into
The unknowing darkness
To overcome the fear
Or
Hear those childish stories
Of how the pigs fearfully
Fought off the wolf

There had to be a last time
When I would wonder aimlessly
Into the elementary school and
Enjoy being a small child

Or a last time
I gracefully fell down
Upon the dirt-filled yard
Not injuring myself
Or
A time where I would
Lovingly play with our
Lively pets, running
Amuck in the yard

There had to be a last time
That time was slow-taking, and
Let everyone be a kid, and play those childish games
Or luck would find us,
Lending us a quarter, laying homeless on the broken sidewalk,
Or when brothers and sister did not have to
Argue over tangible toys

Or the last time
I crashed onto the pavement from
A horrible bicycle accident, yet hide
The bruises and scars until they healed

And there had to be a last time
When the few and only kids in my neighourhood
Finally grew up, and moved on with their new lives and friends

And there had to be a last time
When a child, wee and fragile at mind,
Would have to grow up into a mature adult,
To move the future with his awkward ways

I have done
So many things
For  the
Very
Last
Time.
The Last Time
