The forked path was set in front of the young child, one ending with true happiness, while the other, filled with dark skies, leading eventually to doom and the demise of all well being. Although the paths were not labeled, the child was not sure to tell which path of the elaborate labyrinth to follow. After a casual sigh on his part, the young child glanced towards both paths, and slowly but surely took short steps towards his future.
Slowly awakening from his deep, dark slumber, Caleb sat up distinctively upwards, glancing awkwardly towards his broken alarm clock, which barely glared towards him the time that would be midnight. Shaken by the nightmare of the fearful path of death in his eyes, he rose from his bed, dutifully glanced at his floor, half covered in clothes, even though half of them not worn a time before. Quietly, he slowly tip-toed towards his bedroom door. As he reached for the handle, he pulled his hand back, and cautiously pressed his hand against his all-time favorite object to punch when challenged with anger. Suddenly, from behind the door, several yells were heard. One was the very familiar voice of the one he had called his mother. Like clockwork, he turned his back to the door, and leaned his head against the painted wood that enclosed his room. As his back slid down the door, another yell was heard. This time however, it was not as friendly, and as usual, not the voice he knew to be his fathers. Without thinking of it, Caleb stood from his spot, and sulked in the direction of his bed. As he lowered himself down to his bed level, he collapsed backwards, arms spread out, and eyes wide open, staring at the plain, white ceiling that was raised above himself. In his mind, he saw the black clouds hovering above his head, as they had been in his dream, walking down the path. Although his dreams were always haunted by the perturbed path he had picked, Caleb gracefully laid his head upon his worn pillow, in hope near the end, his path would see pure daylight and happiness galore. |
