Anti-feminist terror campaign in Shevardnadze's Georgia

After the bloody putch and violent takeover in Georgia, organized by former communist nomenklatura, headed by Eduard Shevardnadze in alliance with criminal world of Georgia and Soviet military command in Transcaucasia, I was driven out of my home together with my children by armed terrorists, who robbed, cannonaded and burnt our house with everything, what it contained. This house at the same time was museum of the famous Georgian writer Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, father of the President.

But despite of this, I do not want to speak about my personal woe, suffering and loses of my family, which now lives in exile.

Today in Georgia reigns terror and criminal anarchy, about which much is written in international press and in the reports of Human Rights organizations and now I want to draw public attention on the terror campaign against Georgian women, masterminded by the criminal-terroristic regime of Shevardnadze.

Women are repressed and abused equally with men and that causes indigence of society. This anti-feminist campaign has it's ideological and political basis: great part of female population (and among them especially intellectual women) of Georgia support legal Government and Parliament and dislike criminal paramilitary groups, who now usurped power in Georgia and wage war against their own people (what has no precedent in the history of mankind).

By that reason great quantity of women were dismissed from jobs, arrested, raped, tortured and even killed since the violent coup d'etat in January 1992.

***

Immediately after the coup, among others member of the legal Parliament well known writer and Journalist Irina Taliashvili was beaten brutally, raped and put into prison. After release, her persecution and discrimination continues. She has only one crime: she is supporter of legal government, demands respect to the principles of democracy and Human Rights.

Deputy of the Minister of Culture Juletta Mildiani was arrested and beaten (now she is unemployed); So was mistreated in prison Anna Chavchavadze, journalist; Several times was arrested Etery Mgaloblishvili, literary scholar, author of the monography about E.A.Poe, member of the society of Saint Ilia the Righteous; Dali Pirosmanashvili (MP); Eka Chikhladze, 24 years old, daughter of well known priest Theodore, executed by Shevardnadze in 1983; Dali Surguladze, physician, mother of 3 children.

Before the illegal, anticonstitutional "elections" of 11 October 1992, there were arrested about 3 thousand citizens, among them well known Russian Moscow dissident Valeria Nowodvorskaya, who tried to organize meeting of protest, was brutally beaten and put in prison, but after 6 days of dry hungerstrike was released.

In Kutaisi at the time was imprisoned Nana Lanchava, who is still prisoner ("investigation" continues). There was a crackdown on the family of well known popular folk dancer Latavra Pochiani, whose father was wounded by ruffians during the "search" and his 80 years old relative woman N.Kvirikashvili was shot.

Later on following women were arrested for expressing their views and taking part in demonstrations: Marika Abaishvili, chief editor of the newspaper "Sakartvelos Respublika" ("Republic Georgia"); Tamara Ebralidze, editor of the newspaper "Tavisupali Sakartvelo" ("Free Georgia"); Lia Beruashvili, editor of the newspaper "Kartuli Azri").

In March 1992, Lali Maisuradze, personal secretary of the President [Gamsakhurdia], was shot by machine gun in West Georgian town Tsalendshiha.

Isa Gigoshvili, well known popular actress of Rustaveli Theater was arrested and beaten; so were mistreated in prison Lali Kostava (teacher); Manana Akhvlediani (music teacher); Dali Shengelia (assistant of the cinema corporation), who became disabled person after inhuman beatings in prison (now lives underground); Tamara Kraveishvili, pedagogue of the ballet school, daughter of the popular Georgian opera singer Batu Kraveishvili, was detained for 15 days, without any explanation.

In torture center in the cellars of the former Institute of the Marxism and Leninism, employed by so called "State Council" or junta, in cell N 3 there were detained: student Eka Kherkheulidze (aged 24 years); Khatuna Bakhtadze, a television news editor; Tamar Gamilagdishvili another editor; an 18 years old student Khatia Gudushauri; Maia Matikashvili, editorial worker; Leila Katamadze, editor; and others, altogether 16 female prisoners. These were charged in "treason" and "coup attempt" and were among a total of the more then 300 political prisoners including women and children, many of whom were tortured and mistreated but soon were released, because there was no juridical ground for their detention!

Some women became victims of terroristic acts (for their beliefs). For instance, at the beginning of the coup, at December 22nd Tsitsino Kevkhishvili (physicist, Tbilisi University, pregnant) and Avelina Pertaia, member of the Society of Saint Ilia the Righteous, were shot in the street before the Parliament building, by Kitovani "guardsmen". Nino Putkaradze, pregnant woman, mother of child under age, was shot by "Mkhedrioni" ruffians in her own yard in Zugdidi (newspaper "Agdgoma". July 24th, 1992); Tamara Imnadze, aged woman, was shot during the disperse of protest demonstration of 26th of May, dedicated Baker's visit.

Rusiko Chanturia, pedagogue, was shot in Senaki, before the eyes of her own father (March, 1992); at that time, during the invasion of "Mkhedrioni" in western Georgia (Megrelia), there were numerous victims, among them women, raped and killed (including girls under age) in towns Zugdidi, Tsalendshikha, Senaki, Tskhorotsku, Khobi and Poti.

As it is known, Georgian junta from the very first days of it's existence, has forbidden peaceful meetings and demonstrations of protest in Georgia. The most inhuman crackdown was committed on January 3rd and February 2nd 1992, in Tbilisi, when some 50 persons were killed and about 200 wounded (woman among them).
